Shaarey Zedek Sally and Richard Krugel, honorees
Yad Ezra is thrilled to pay tribute to Sally and Richard Krugel at its event on Monday, October 6th at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue in Southfield Michigan. In addition to their long-standing support of Yad Ezra, Sally and Richard have served in leadership roles on a variety of boards and organizations in both the Jewish and greater community. Professionally, Sally has worked as a teacher, campaign consultant for Congressman Sander Levin, and Senator Carl Levin, Director of Women's Department of JFMD, Director of Development for Kadima and American Friends of Melitz, and was director of JFMD's Michigan Miracle Mission 4. In addition to having served on Yad Ezra's Executive Committee, co-chairing two fundraising events and chairing the food pantry's first Endowment Campaign, Sally is currently a member of Yad Ezra's Advisory Board. She has dedicated many years of service to our community as a member of other boards including UJA's National Women's Young Leadership Cabinet, Jewish Federation of Metro Detroit Women's Department, Michigan Jewish Conference, Jewish Community Relations Council, Congregation Shaarey Zedek and the synagogue's Sisterhood. Sally is a project coordinator for Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network and is now the Jewish Programming Chairperson for the 2008 JCC Detroit Maccabi Games. Sally has received Federation's Sylvia Greenberg Women's Young Leadership Award and is a graduate of the Wexner Heritage Program. Richard is an Orthopedic Surgeon on the faculty of Wayne State University School of Medicine and practices with Wayne State University Physicians Group. His community involvement includes serving as a Vice-president of the JFMD and serves on the Executive Committee and Board, and is Chairperson of the Alliance for Jewish Education. He also serves on the Board of the Jewish Fund as well as the Board of Visiting Nurses Association of Southeast Michigan. Richard is a Past President of Fresh Air Society/Tamarack Camps. Nationally, Richard is on the Board and Executive Committee of UJC, the United Jewish Communities, and also is a Board member and past vice chair of JESNA, Jewish Education Service of North America. He has served as a co-chairperson for Yad Ezra's fundraising dinner and was a member of the Young Leadership Cabinet of UJA, a recipient of the Frank A Wetsman Leadership Award of Federation, and graduate of the Wexner Heritage Program. Sally and Richard are the proud parents of Joel and Heidi, Howard and Erin, Noah and Ellen and adoring grandparents to Darby, Cami, Sloane, Orley, Jesse and Adam. The annual fundraiser, which accounts for a major portion of Yad Ezra's budget, is used to purchase nutritious groceries, healthcare items and household goods for the organization's 1,400 client families. Almost 2,700 individuals rely on Yad Ezra every month for assistance. THAT'S 1 IN 24 INDIVIDUALS IN THE METRO DETROIT JEWISH COMMUNITY!!
